and now to you.

So, that last post was filled with my favorite movies this summer. What were your favorite movies?

I would have to say that ‘UP’ was my favorite movie of the summer. I didn’t see very many this summer, but emotional animated movies always seem to get to me.

    UP was lovely.

very nice list. remember when i called “star trek” “star wars”? ha, and then i saw the movie and totally loved it. was blown away by it, even. i still, inexplicabaly, have yet to see “Up” … no excuse.

“inglorious bastards” was stunning. and i wholeheartedly agree that tarantino knows his shit, but the scenes you mentioned are bothersome, especially because of the pattern that has emerged across his entire catalog of films.

“the hangover” was one of the most fun movies i have seen in a while. part of that could be because of the setting at big picture: a smaller, over 21 audience, an intimate theater, adult beverages … i don’t know. it met and actually exceeded expectations for me.

“District 9” … wow … the themes, the performance by Sharito Copley … the raw, visceral style of the cinematography. it was a 30 million dollar gem of a film. thank God for peter jackson and neill blomkamp.
    see
i still need to see (and look forward to seeing) the rest of the movies you mentioned, though it may take a while for me to see “harry potter” … i have a lot of reading to catch up on …

I’m with you on 500 Days of Summer, HP 6, and Paper Heart. Did not love D9 or Inglorious Basterds. Just saw jane Campion’s Bright Star and found it imperfect, yet exquisite nonetheless. I think I’ve seen more movies in the theatre this year than I have have since 2006. Haven’t been disappointed much. Oh, and Star Trek was like rockets exploding with candy and attractive people. Saw it twice.
