the perfect nerd storm. [batman: arkham asylum.]

All accounts point to the possibility that I may explode soon. The reason for this impending doom is that it appears someone has found a way to bring my nerdy infatuation with Batman and my nerdy love of good video games together in the new game “Batman: Arkham Asylum.”

I’m wary of most super hero games, far too often they suck (Marvel: Ultimate Alliance being one of the more notable exceptions in my book). So, a few months ago when I got wind of this game I assumed it wouldn’t be that good.

Yet, I have been given reason to finally get excited. To say reviews of the game are glowing would be an understatement. Best of all the news I have come across regarding the game is that it is insanely fun, is deeply rooted in a passion for the source material, and that it focuses a good deal of Batman’s detective abilities. Sometimes Batman’s status as “The World’s Greatest Detective” is left out of popular manifestations. The fact that the sleuthing plays a primary role in gameplay is quite exciting to a nerd such as myself.

That being the case, it may be too much for me to handle, thus I may blow into bits, or at the very least spontaneously combust. I need that sort of thing this summer, so I can’t wait until I can afford to get my hands on this bad boy. However, if I disappear, never to be seen again, you’ll know what happened.

getting off on the right foot.

The opening credits for Mad Men are definitely my favorite on television. Short, sweet, and beautifully evocative of the main themes of the show.

Of course, because the entertainment industry is strongly against their products being advertised for free, thus giving them money for nothing, embedding of the video is disabled, so you can only watch it on YouTube. Buuuulllshiiiit. If you haven’t seen it and feel like watching it, or, if you have seen it and feel like watching it again, here is the YouTube link:

disappointed.

This blog post perfectly captures the spirit of what disappointed me about the new Avatar trailer on first watch: In Defense of Being Disappointed by the ‘Avatar’ Trailer

Maybe it’s just about people my age or something, but the T-Rex scene, as well as the excitement sitting in the theater waiting for Jurassic Park to begin, may always be a bit of a litmus test for me regarding being amazed by a movie in that particular way.
